The Business Innovation and Incubation Centre provided Start-up grants for students’ through From Lab to Industry (FLI) (21 applicants) (, BIIC Connect start-ups(42 students), BIIC -UCOFSA start- ups(10 students), IUCOFSA - BIIC(15 students) start-up programmes.

Entrepreneurship Awards 2018

\To encourage the students, BIIC has instituted three Entrepreneur Awards on the basis of industrial viability of projects. The award carried a prize money of Rs. 50,000 and a citation. The wards were distributed on 17 March 2018 by Mr.S Venkataraman,Chief General Manager, State Bank of India. The award winners are Ms. Blessy Joseph, Mr. Sreejith S and Mr. Ajith Mathew.

Workshop On Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)

On 18 February 2018 a workshop was organised to make the students aware about Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and start-up activities. The workshop was led by Adv. Benoy Kadavan and Ms Preethi M, TBI manager, NIT Calicut.

Start-up Grant Distribution

Start-up Grant Distribution was organised by BIIC on 23 October 2018. Start-up grant of Rs. 10,000 was distributed to the students under the two schemes BIIC Connect start-up and IUCOFSA BIIC start-ups.

Workshop on "The Art of Film Making"

BIIC organised a Short Film Competition on the Topic "Innovation" . As part of the Short Film Competition a workshop on "The art of Film making" and short film competition was organised at BIIC-K N Raj Centre Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, on 04/11/2018. The aim of the competition was to build a platform for the students to broadcast an idea to the audience through the screen. 13 applications were received and the panel of jury members selected two of them for the award of consolation prizes.

Talk on "Company Formation"

Invited talk on "Company Formation" lead by Mr. Prathik Lenin, Chartered Accountant, Lenin Associates, Kottayam, at School of Tourism Studies, Mahatma Gandhi University on 12 December 2018. The talk provided simple tips to help and guide our student entrepreneurs regarding funding, financial agencies and company registration.

Talk on "Entrepreneurship"

Prof. Aruna Chandrasekhar, Fulbright Fellow and innovation expert visited Business Innovation and Incubation Centre, Mahatma Gandhi University on 20-21 December 2019. A talk on Entrepreneurship was lead by Dr. Aruna Chandra at the centre on 21/12/2019. She also interacted with the BIIC start-up grantees.

Talk on "Innovative Thinking and Effective Communication"

On 27 September 2018 Dr. Kalyani Vallathu conducted a workshop on "Innovative Thinking and Effective Communication" for aspiring entrepreneurs. The workshop cast light on many aspects of interpersonal and interpersonal skills of collaboration, communication, creative thinking, time and project management that make up efficient young professionals.

Details of MoU

As per the initiatives of Mahatma Gandhi University to develop industry linked research activities through BIIC, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed on 14 th January 2019 represented by the Hon. Vice-Chancellor on behalf of Mahatma Gandhi University with Agro-Biotech Research Centre Limited (ABTEC) through the Business Innovation and Incubation Centre (BIIC) of Mahatma Gandhi University. This Memorandum shall be in force for a period of two years from the date of signing the agreement.

Details of Patent Filing

The centre supported 14 Patent filings during the year 2018. Patent Applications were obtained from various departments within the university and are forwarded to Adv. Benoy Kadavan for legal secrutiny. Patent Application Number has obtained for the 14 patent applications.
