Events Programme Report 2019

BIIC is the institutional innovation platform meant for the improvement of the overall ecosystem of Mahatma Gandhi University. From 2016 onwards, BIIC is playing key role in translating the faculty and student innovation activities to ideas, services and products for diverse applications.

Mahatma Gandhi University signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 04/07/2019 represented by Hon. Vice-Chancellor with Kerala Agri Development and Sustainable Producer Company Limited (KADS PCL) through the Business Innovation and Incubation Centre (BIIC)

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed on 19/09/2019 represented by Hon. Vice-Chancellor on behalf of Mahatma Gandhi University with National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM) through the Business Innovation and Incubation Centre (BIIC).


Patent Filing Details

The centre supported 8 Patent filings during the year 2019. Patent application number has provided to the 8 patent applicants.

Student Mentor Interface


A Student Mentor Interface was organised by Business Innovation and Incubation centre on 10-01- 2019 at various departments within Mahatma Gandhi University. The programme was conducted with the intention of bringing together all the student start-up holders of BIIC and various external experts of BIIC.

Vice-Chancellor on behalf of Mahatma Gandhi University with Agro-Biotech Research Centre Limited (ABTEC) through the Business Innovation and Incubation Centre (BIIC) of Mahatma Gandhi University.

Boot camp 2019


A boot camp was organized on January 18-23, 2019 at School of Environmental Sciences. The programme was aimed to strengthen University research tie up and interaction with international experts. The lead of boot camp was Dr. Ryan Baidya from USA. As part of this programme start-up grant of Rs 10000 were distributed to 18 start-up holders selected by the evaluation committee.

Invited talk Series on "Herbal and Food Innovations-IPR Management" was organized by BIIC on 3 rd and 4 th May 2019 at School of Biosciences. Dr. Sunil Pareek (National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management), Dr. K. B. Ramesh Kumar (Jawaharlal Nehru Tropical Botanical Garden and Research Institute) and Adv. Benoy Kadavan (Legal Consultancy BIIC) were invited as speakers for the programme.

Review Meeting of Start-up Holders


A review meeting of start-up holders was conducted on 29 th June 2019 at BIIC of M.G. University. Twenty start-up holders were presented their progress of work in front of the expert committee. The expert committee consisted of Dr. N. K. Sasidharan, Professor of Agronomy (Retd), Kerala Agricultural University, Dr. Pushpalatha K. P., Associate Professor, School of Computer Science, Smt. K. J. Geetha Former Project Director, Agricultural Technology Management Agency, Kottayam.


Young Innovators Programme (YIP)


The centre completed the registration process to expose young students to the cycle of innovation to create a deeper imprint on the academic system in Kerala through Young Innovators Programme (YIP) organized by Kerala Development and Innovation Strategic Council (K-DISC).

Inauguration of Start-up Incubation Facility at BIIC


The Inauguration of BIIC Start-up Incubation Facility Inauguration was conducted on 19 th August 2019 afternoon by Dr. K. T. Jaleel, Hon. Minister for Higher Education and Minority Welfare in the presence of Prof. (Dr.) Sabu Thomas, Hon. Vice Chancellor, Mahatma Gandhi University.

Innovatia 2019


The centre conducted "INNOVATIA 2019", a one day programme to generate new steps for the development of business ecosystem in Kerala on 11 th October 2019 in association with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). This one day program mainly includes inaugural function, invited talk and panel discussions with industrial experts from Nanotechnology, Chemical Science, Physics, Environmental Science, Biosciences, Computer Sciences and Management and Tourism.
Main goal of the program was to encourage innovations and technological leads that can be generated through industry academic interactions.

On 25/11/2019 BIIC organised a Start-up Screening of the new start-up ideas presented by the applicants. Mr. Prathik Lenin, Chartered Accountant and Mr Anil Raghavan, CEO Saint Gits group of Companies wrere the invited external experts of the screening committee. 7 Applicants presented their innovative projects before the committee.
